Saturday 21st June 2025 at 7:30pm.
An evening of original and traditional Blue Grass music with Olde Boston Tea Party.
Bluegrass combines elements of old-time mountain music, square dance fiddling, blues, gospel, jazz, and popular music. Like jazz, bluegrass allows performers to improvise and take turns playing lead. Its distinctive timing surges slightly ahead of or anticipates the main beat, creating a lively and energized effect.
The lineup
- David Hatfield – Standup Bass & vocals is one of the UK’s most respected players having played with most of the bluegrass greats from the 60’s onwards including being in the Kursaal Flyers. He leads the band from a rock solid foundation.
- Jeremy Cozens – Mandolin, Guitar & tenor vocals has played for a many years and was inspired into bluegrass after a visit to the ‘Cambridge Folk Festival’ where he may have crossed paths with David! He adds rhythmic mandolin and clear tenor harmony.
- Charlie Boston – Guitar & lead vocals is an award winning singer songwriter who has recorded several CD’s in Nashville with some of the bluegrass greats. He brings a plethora of songs, many self penned, to the band with slick lead guitar playing.
- John Boston – Fiddle & baritone vocals his roots go back to the 70’s playing with the emerging UK bluegrass trail blazers. He has also taught fiddle at Sore Fingers Summer School. His fiddle playing is clean and accurate and has a huge number of tunes and songs to offer.
- Karen Macwhinnie – Lead and Alto vocals adds a new dimension to the sound. Her rich vibrant vocal tone delights audiences with her special gift. She also sings with Jeremy in an Americana harmony duo ‘The Keepsakes’.
The band has been going for about 30 years with three name changes and musician lineup. David is the original member with Jeremy next. However the original bluegrass Americana feel still remains and they continue to delight audiences with their upbeat rhythm, vocals and tunes.
Recently Karen has joined the band on various occasions to add her lovely alto tones to the mix.
Event postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The new date is Saturday 20th September.
